The 2019 Albany Short Course Carnival was a hugely successful weekend of swimming with a high level of competition brought to our local pool by almost 250 swimmers – 226 competitors and 18 Splash and Dash entrants.
With the stands packed to capacity by cheering spectators, a festival atmosphere of friendly interclub rivalry was enjoyed by all.
Our Dream Team of Tom, Jacques, Luke and Jake took flight for Adelaide at the start of the holidays, where they represented Albany Swim Club in not one, but two relay events at the National Championships. They swam against the very best teams in the country and secured their place in the record books:
4 x 50m Medley relay: a PB and 15yrs and under Country All Time (CAT) record of 1:59:95.
Also in the Easter holidays, our team of Ned, Creed, Coco, Poet, Itsuki, Max, Freya, Joshua, Charlie and Harriet set off for the Junior Long Course State Championships at HBF Stadium.
Huge congratulations to brothers Creed and Ned Shepherd for becoming State champions. Creed won gold in the 200m IM, 100m Free and 50m breast, while his big brother won gold in the 400m Free and 200m Back (as well...
In March, our Country Pennants team took flight to Karratha to defend its place in A-grade. (For the uninitiated, Country Pennants sees all country clubs graded, A through E. To move up a grade, you have to win your grade; to stay in a grade, you have to come in top 4).
Our team of Freya, Bronte, Leisel, Stella, Chantelle, Charlie, Harry, Blake, Jacinta, Angus, Kai, Lila, Cairo, Coco, Poet, It...
At the start of the school year, 20 of our swimmers descended upon York for the Great Southern Region Meet. Conditions were hot but that didn't deter everyone from swimming their hearts out. Many medals were collected and some PBs recorded. A great day had by all.
Earlier this year Coach Marshall, Team Manager Erin, fathers Paul and myself Rowan took 15 swimmers to Adelaide to compete in the 2019 South Australia Long Course Championships.
Not only did we get them there, keep them fed (that’s a lot of food – my sightseeing of Adelaide included Woolworth, Coles, IGA and Aldi and any number of butchers and bakers), and survived a record-breaking 46.6 degree...
It's not every day that a small country club's relay team qualifies for the National Championships. But this is exactly what our U14/15 boys 4 x 50m medley relay team (Tom Gawned, Jacques Swarts, Luke Wallinger and Jake Shepherd) did at the recent Country Champs. Their impressive time of 2:01.63 has earned them a spot at the 2019 Nationals to be held in Adelaide. Well done, boys!
Based on his results from State Age Short Course Champs (which included 4 gold medals & 2 silver medals from 7 swims), Tom has been selected on the SWA 2018 State Short Course Team. To be selected, his performances had to stand up against not only those of other 14yo boys in the state but also the 15yo’s.
As a member of this team, Tom will compete at the Australian State Teams Championships being...
Seven swimmers represented Albany Swim Club at the recent Age Short Course State Championships. It was the first time at senior states for Bronte, Luke, Jacques and Jake; they were joined by Molly, Tom and Zac.
Together, our swimmers helped set a new club PB – the most successful senior states ever, with a whopping 82% PB rate.
Our 14&U boys relay team (Tom, Jake, Jacques and Luke) smashed it in t...
We're delighted to welcome Kenny to the Albany Swim Club. Here, he describes how he got to where he is today – and the exciting goals he has planned for the future.
"I’ve always been a lover of swimming especially when I was able to complete the Rottnest Channel Swim Solo in 2015 along with any other sport that personally challenged me. In May 2017 all of this changed when I had a motor cycle ac...
Albany Swim Club was very well represented at the 2018 Westpac Swimmer of the Year awards.
Our Head Coach Marshall McAleese received the ASCTA/WA Development Coach of the Year award, testimony to the tireless work he puts into his program and the support he provides to our elite-level swimmers.
Kaye Bolger was awarded Technical Official of the Year, to add to her other national accolades. It is fa...
We are extremely proud to report on Tom's incredible performance at the recent Georgina Hope Foundation Australian Age Swimming Championships in Sydney.
Tom competed in five events, finishing fourth in the 200m backstroke and fifth in the 100m backstroke in his age group. These fantastic swims qualified him for the Silver Performance Pathway level in these events.
