By Lia Shavian, Albany Swim Club President
I am pleased to announce the appointment of George Harnetty to the position of Albany Swim Club Head Coach.
George joins us from Breakers Swim Club with a breadth of experience coaching both able-bodied and multiclass athletes from novice to national level. Additionally George has been a volunteer assistant coach for WAIS since 2017 working under the mentorship of Bud McAllister with his high performance squad.
Exciting times are ahead for our club as we transition to a new era under George’s contemporary leadership style.
George will join Team Albany on pool deck as Head Coach from 29 July. This term, George will bring his engaging style to the Dolphins and Sharks squads, regularly attending training sessions to get to know all of our swimmers.
I extend my sincere appreciation to Albany Swim Club life member and SWA Chief Referee Kaye Bolger and our Secretary Kanako Tomita as fellow members of the selection panel in making this important decision for our club. The panel worked diligently to ensure a fair and equitable process, undertaking a rigorous assessment of candidates.
On behalf of the panel I would like to acknowledge the high standard of applicants who applied for the position and express our sincere appreciation to each of them for their investment in the process.
