SQUADS

 

Placement of swimmers in squads is at the discretion of the Head Coach and is based on swimmers’ level of performance, degree of application and ability. New members will be assessed and then advised which squad is appropriate to commence training in. Swimmers may be offered promotion from one squad to another by the Head Coach when they are ready based on the swimmer’s training attendance and punctuality, attitude and the ability to meet progression targets. There are four squads at Albany Swim Club:


Bronze (ex-Dolphins)
Swimmer is between 7 and 12 years old and is looking to compete competitively and developing strokes and skills.
Swimmers should be able to, or work towards swimming;
200Fr continuous with bilateral breathing,
Swim 100Bk, 50Brst and 25Fly continuous,
4 x 50 combined IM base times sub 245 seconds.
Sessions: 1 hour in duration. Expected to attend a minimum of 1-2 sessions, but maximum 3 sessions per week.
 
Silver (ex-Sharks)
Swimmer is between 8 and 13 years old, is working towards achieving State qualifying times, building fitness and
developing strokes and skills.
Swimmers should be able to, or work towards swimming;
4 x 50 combined IM base sub 210 seconds,
4 x 100Fr on 2.00,
4 x 100IM on 2.45,
6 x 50 choice kick on 1.45.
Sessions: 1.5 hour in duration. Expected to attend a minimum of 2-3 sessions, but maximum 3 sessions per week.

Gold (ex-Sharks Gold)
Swimmer is between 9 and 13 years old, is building towards achieving State qualifying times, building fitness,
developing strokes and skills and learning how to pace and race.

Swimmers demonstrate correct technique in all four competitive strokes and should be able to, or work towards
swimming;
4 x 50 combined IM base sub 170 seconds,
8 x 100Fr on 1.45,
8 x 100IM on 2.00,
10 x 50 choice kick on 1.20.
Sessions: 1.5 to 2 hour duration. Expected to attend a minimum of 3-4 sessions per week one of which is overlaps with the Performance squad. Maximum 5 session per week.

Performance, Snr Performance and High Performance (ex-Marlins)
Swimmer is aged 13 years and above and has achieved State qualifying times or within 5%.

Building an understanding of training bases and stroke efficiency in further detail. Mastering skills like pacing and introducing soft skills like visualization and focus on injury prevention.
Swimmers will also attend a weekly, swim specific, individualized Strength & Conditioning session.

Swimmers should be able to, or work towards swimming;

10 x 100Fr on 1.30,
5 x 200IM on 3.30,
6 x 100 choice kick on 2.05,
Swimmers will take ownership of their swimming by knowing their PB’s, stroke rate and stroke count, max heart rate
and understanding different training zones.


Sessions: Performance - expected to attend a minimum of 4-5 sessions per week.
Snr. Performance – minimum 5 sessions per week.
High Performance – Currently, max 6 swimmers but subject to revision – minimum 7 sessions per week.

High Performance
Limited number of swimmers who have State qualifying times and working towards, or achieved National times, will
be selected for this squad.

Selection by Head Coach will be based on swimmer’s potential, coachability, attitude, age and attendance.
